Xanita's X-Board , X-Board Kraft and X-Board Plus
eco-friendly boards are increasingly specified by
sustainability-focused architects and designers working to reduce the
environmental footprint of their client's retail stores. Shopping
centre owners increasingly attract a better quality tenant through
offering them a cleaner built environment. Xanita boards offer numerous
solutions in this regard.
Store
owners and their designers are able to embrace refits within their
stores due to the ease with which lightweight Xanita boards can be
fitted, removed and recycled (or re-used) and replaced with minimal
impact to trading hours.
Working
solutions for bulkheads, furniture, shelving, counter tops, retail display walls and hoardings are but a few examples of where
lightweight eco-friendly materials are utilised as an advantage over
traditional, heavy weight MDF and particle board, which usually gets dumped after use, as toxic landfill.

Shown opposite is an example of Woolworths South Africa who engaged an
architect and shop fitter to embrace and utilise industrial inkjet
printed, pre-cut and pre-manufactured
X-Board panels, converting them into slatted timber look-alike, suspended bulkheads.
The
biggest compliment to this high quality solution is that this bulkhead
was fitted near consumable food products within a Woolworths Food
Store in only three hours, without disturbing the trading of the store. A small basket-sized amount of paper waste was removed from the site after the job.

Bulkheads above
refrigerated food and drink areas often cover the services, piping and wiring to those
fridges. Quick and easy access to these services can therefore be difficult and time
consuming if traditional timber and gypsum-based products are used.
Shown opposite is an example of a removable printed bulkhead that is fixed onto a
lightweight TRIGA aluminium frame for easy removal and replacement within the N1 City
Woolworths store in South Africa.
Pre-printed and pre-cut X-Board was used and neatly installed in one
on-site application, within three hours, with no dust generation on
site or costly disruption to store trading hours.

Hoardings
within retail centres are increasingly required to be aesthetically appealing during tenant change-over periods.
The branded
solution shown opposite is an ideal example of how direct industrial
inkjet printed X-Board can add value
to hoardings within retail centres. The common way for hoarding was to
build with plywood, stick a pre-printed PVC graphic over the wood and
then dispose of the structure to landfill after use.
The owners of Cavendish Shopping Centre, Old Mutual Group Property
Investments, are now leading
campaigns for eco-friendly solutions to hoardings using printed
X-Board.
X-Board panels were fixed as the temporary shop front using
top hat sections that allowed easy
disassembly and re-use of the X-Board sheeting.

Shop
owners are often challenged by having to move their shelving layouts
within their stores to facilitate new product launches.
This task is
not as tedious if a lightweight shelving solution made from X-Board
Plus is adopted, onto which decorative surfaces such as timber veneer,
melamine or high pressure laminates are applied.
The 58mm thick, cantilevered shelves shown opposite are
ideally suited to the achieve visually thick aesthetics, are strong and
lightweight, and conform to the eco-friendly status of this new giftware store located in Sydney, Australia.

Wall stripping "filler" panels made from decorated MDF or
particleboard are
traditionally not used for displaying graphic-based themes due to them
being permanently fixed to the wall until the next major shop fit.
However, direct inkjet printed X-board or 3M Di-Noc Architectural films applied over X-Board Kraft, allow lightweight walls to fill the area between the vertically mounted metal wall strips,
without permanently fixing these panels. The result....temporary retail display backdrops with graphics to suit.
These filler panels can be pre-printed and
fitted by a single person.
Seasonal themes and graphic
opportunities are therefore available in this application (front and
back surface) and can be changed as often as required with no store or department closure required.
